Did You Know?

Why do brides wear white?

Traditionally, brides did not wear white wedding gowns. This tradition began to gain popularity in the late 1800s. Prior to this time, during the Middle Ages in Europe, red was a favorite.

Other colors were also worn for symbolic reasons: blue to symbolize constancy and green to express youthfulness. As years passed, white was worn as a symbol of purity. The tradition of the white dress began in 1840 when England’s Queen Victoria married Prince Albert. The fashion statement, which symbolized chastity, marked the beginning of the Victorian period and has been imitated in countless variations ever since. It has been said that white should be worn only for first weddings. But, today white merely symbolizes the wedding itself and it may be worn by any bride, no matter if it is their first, second, or third marriage. The most important thing is that you look and feel your best on what marks one of the most important days in your life.
