Q: Can I put my registry information on my invitation? I want to keep my guests informed, but I’m not sure what is considered proper etiquette.
A: We understand the desire to keep guests fully informed, but the practice of including registry or other gift preferences on wedding invitations is still a big no-no in our book. Etiquette dictates that references to our gift preferences must be carefully chosen and discreet. So, while we strongly discourage you from listing your registry information anywhere on your invitations, there are ways (other than word of mouth) to subtly let your guests know where you are registered. An excellent option is to include an accessory card in the invitation packet guiding guests to your wedding web site. Wedding web sites generally include a page where you can list and link stores where you have a registry.
Another perfectly acceptable option is to have your registry information included in with your bridal shower invitation. Since the tradition and main purpose of a bridal shower is to honor the bride-to-be with gifts to prepare for her new life as a wife, it is often expected to receive registry information along with the shower invite.
