Why is it a tradition for bride’s to carry a handkerchief?

In the past, farmers thought that the tears a bride sheds on her wedding day were lucky and would bring much needed rain for their crops. Today, many brides carry a handkerchief on their wedding day to dab away tears of joy. Many brides keep their handkerchief and plan to pass it down to a family member getting married in the future. A vintage handkerchief makes a perfect “something old.”
